What Is The Largest Wood Stove I Can Buy?

The Buck Stove Model 91 Wood Burning Stove is one of the largest wood burning stoves on the market today. Proudly made in the USA using high-quality Pittsburgh steel.

Physical Size

For freestanding applications, cast iron legs or a pedestal kit are added. With the 8” legs and 8” pedestal, the stove measures 34 ¼” wide x 31 3/16” high x 28 7/8” deep. These measurements are the widest, tallest, and deepest physical dimensions of the stove. The firebox of the stove where you place your logs to burn is 4.4 cubic feet. This allows you to burn a 23” log right to left and 22” back to front. Longer logs means less cutting of the firewood.

Heating Capacity

Buck Stove is modest when listing the Model 91’s heating capabilities. Buck lists 1,800 to 3,200 square feet as the heating capacity. Other models with smaller fireboxes that are less efficient would list this stove to heat a larger area. Buck Stove’s honesty and integrity prevents them from listing larger heating capabilities. This stove, if installed into an older home with less insulation might heat 1,800 square feet. In a newer home with better insulation quality can heat up to 3,200 square feet. Other unique characteristics to a home such as ceiling height, climate, the number of windows, and room sizes also play a factor in a wood stove’s heating capability.

Industry Comparison

Below is a list of other wood stove manufacturer’s largest wood burning stoves. Have a look and compare how the Buck Model 91 stacks up against today’s industry leaders.

Efficiency

Not only is the Buck Model 91 one of the largest stoves on the market, it is also one of the most efficient and clean burning. The universally tested efficiency came out at 80.4% efficient. In comparison, the Osburn 3500 and Empire 3500 both tested at 77% efficient. The Napoleon S25 Tested in at 76%. The Breckwell SW25 came in at 73%. The emissions came out at 1.9 grams per hour. This is similar to other models on the market. The EPA imposed strict emissions testing beginning in 2020. This means you will get more heat from less wood and your chimney will spend less $$$ on maintenance.
